What should the client be doing?

I just sent my contract
After we receive your contract and payment it will take us about one to two days to create your hard file and update your virtual file. During that time we recommend you read the Welcome Brochure and Firm Policies if you have not done so already.

Preparing I-130/I-129F
On your virtual file in our database, there is a link to questionnaires and to requested docs. You should answer the questions in the questionnaire as promptly and completely as you can. Read and follow the instructions carefully for the requested documents. If you have any questions for us, please send us a message through the database. It is best to consolidate your questions into just one or two emails. Once we have all the information we need from you we will email you the forms for your review. Please review them carefully for errors. Then print out the forms, sign them and mail them back to us with the requested documents in a single mailing.

I-130 just approved
If you receive the I-130 approval notice before we do, please notify us immediately. We will then begin work on the forms for the next step in the case and you should commence collecting the requested documents for the next step. If we are missing any information, we will request it from you. We will email you the completed forms for your review. Please review them carefully for errors. Then print out the forms, sign them and mail them back to us with the requested documents in a single mailing. As soon as we receive the visa bill from the NVC we will give you instructions on how to pay the visa bill online. At this time you should also start work on the qualifying relative’s letter for the waiver. This should be a 2-3 page letter describing the qualifying relative’s hardships both if he/she moves to the alien’s home country or remains in the US without the alien. This letter does not need to be perfect. It is to give us a starting point for putting together the list of supporting documents for the waiver.

I-129F just approved
If you receive the I-129F approval notice before we do, please notify us immediately. We will then begin work on the forms for the next step in the case and you should commence collecting the requested documents for the next step. If we are missing any information, we will request it from you. We will email you the completed forms for your review. Please review them carefully for errors. Then print out the forms, sign them and hang on to them along with the requested documents for the K visa. Normally the alien must submit these items in person at the consulate, so most clients prefer not to send them to us. We can, however, review them if you prefer in order to make sure they are all in order.

Got waiver doc list
After you get the waiver document list from us, read it carefully. If you have any questions, please ask. It is best to consolidate your questions into one or two emails. If the list includes any letters with a detailed description of what we want in the letter, we recommend that you copy and paste the description onto a paper to hand to the person who needs to write the letter. After you have all the documents, send them to us in a single mailing. It is important to get us the documents at least three weeks in advance of when the waiver needs to be complete so we have time to ask for additional documents from you after we review what you provide us.

Filed the I-601
After you file the waiver application, there is not much for you to do with your case except wait. If there are any major changes in your life while the waiver is pending or if your waiver application is expected to take more than seven months to adjudicate, we may want to update the pending waiver application within two months of the expected date of adjudication. If your case is still pending 30 days after normal processing time, we may file an inquiry.
